Fairfield sits on the far side of Westport from our yard, inside the radius we cover every day. It’s a big town with very different kinds of property in it, and what works by the beach isn’t what works up on Greenfield Hill.
What building in Fairfield involves
The beach area
Near Penfield, Jennings and the other beaches, yards take wind, salt spray and sandy soil, and some sit low enough to flood in big storms. Some houses there have been raised, which leaves new steps, walks and plantings to tie the house back to the ground. We use stone and plants that tolerate salt, set hardscape on a well-compacted base, and grade so water drains away rather than pooling against the foundation.
Historic Southport and Greenfield Hill
Fairfield has some of the oldest houses in the county, and districts like Southport and Greenfield Hill have rules about visible exterior changes. Traditional houses also look best with traditional work: fieldstone walls, bluestone walks, brick edging and plantings that look like they’ve always been there. We design for that, and we’ll help you put together what a historic district application usually needs.
Rivers and wetlands
The Mill River and several other streams run through town toward the Sound, and low, wet areas along them are common. Work near a wetland or watercourse can need the town’s inland wetlands approval, and work close to the shore can need coastal review. We flag both on the site walk.
Wet clay and older drainage
Inland, Fairfield shares the heavy soil and rock found across the county. Older properties often have downspouts dumping right at the foundation or drains that clogged years ago. We trace where the water goes before choosing a fix, whether that’s a French drain, a dry well, a downspout tie-in or regrading.

How we work in Fairfield
Every job starts with a free site walk. A foreman measures, photographs, checks grades and listens to how you use the yard. You get one fixed written proposal, usually within 3 business days. The same crew builds the job from start to finish, cleans the site every night and walks the finished work with you. Hardscape and masonry carry a 2-year workmanship warranty.
